The men of the Enugu State Police Command have rounded up a gang of criminals who allegedly raped a Reverend Sister in the state as well as kidnapping 10 Reverend Fathers a few months ago.
The
arrested suspects are some of those who attacked the Ndude Seminary in
the state where a Reverend Sister was gang-raped while the Reverend
Fathers were kidnapped and taken to their Ugwaji forest camp.
The
suspects, whose names were given as Haruna Ibrahim, Abubakar Abdullahi,
Sunday Selbon Melven, Onyedika Okafor, Lawal Sule, Bello Mohammed and
Bello Musa Shehu, were arrested at the Ugwuaji forest along the
Enugu/Port Harcourt road, a fortress where criminals hide whenever they
strike in the state and other neighbouring states.
While parading the suspects, the state Commissioner for Police, Abubakar Mohammed Adamu, said:
While confessing to the crimes, one of the suspects, Haruna Ibrahim said:
"We have two groups in Enugu State. We only collect ransom from the family of our victims, we don’t kill people.
We
have kidnapped a Rev Father at 9th mile and took him to Ugwuaji forest
where he spent just two days after we collected N250,000 from him.
Also, we kidnapped a pastor at Obiorre Udi old road and collected a ransom of N150,000."
